Sunmap Raster Topograhpic Mapsheets CD ROM
Sunmap Raster presents all of Queensland’s available 1:25000 scale topographic line maps as georeferenced ECW images, complete with viewing software. The images used in Sunmap Raster are derived from the most current edition of the respective topographic line maps produced by Natural Resources and Mines (NR&M) as at October 2004.

This product does not completely cover the state of Queensland, only selected areas as highlighted on the Sunmap Raster key map.

There are two versions of Sunmap Raster. The differences are outlined below.
Topographic Mapsheets:
422 1:25,000 scale Sunmap topographic line maps covering parts of Queensland. These maps use the Map Grid of Australia as their projection, meaning that the coordinates of the maps are measured in metres and the maps can be used for measuring distances and areas. Pixel size is 2.54m.

Topographic Mosaic:
422 1:25,000 scale Sunmap topographic line maps joined together. Also includes a 1:2.5 million scale Queensland regional map. The coordinates are latitude/longitude, which make the maps in this version ideal for interfacing with GPS software, but not suitable for measuring distances or areas.

More information on coordinate systems and why the different products are suited to different applications can be found in the links on the website of Geoscience Australia.

Companion Products:
Sunmap Raster has been developed by the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, in conjunction with Geoscience Australia, as a companion to the NATMAP Raster series.

Sunmap Raster uses the same viewing software, and offers the same searching, viewing and exporting functionality as the NATMAP Raster products. This compatibility means that you can view NATMAP maps in the Sunmap Raster Viewer, and Sunmap maps in the Natmap Raster Viewer.

For regions not covered by 1:25 000 scale Sunmap topographic line maps, you may wish to purchase a Natmap Raster product.

Creation Process:
"Raw" raster images were created from the digital files used to produce Sunmap topographic paper maps. Where digital files were not available, the paper map was scanned to generate the "raw" raster images. Each "raw" raster image was then georeferenced (transformed to be positionally accurate and encoded with coordinates and projection information) before being compressed in the final ECW image.

Minimum System Configuration:
  • PC running Windows 98/2000/XP
  • Pentium ll processer/ 32Mb RAM
  • 50Mb free disk space
  • 800x600 screen resolution with 64k colours
